SUMMARY:25th Annual North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC) Conference
DESCRIPTION:This year has presented a number of challenges for many in our community that make travel and conference attendance difficult. After much deliberation and surveying our membership\, NAPPC Leadership has come to the difficult decision to host a virtual only conference this year. While we will miss being together in person\, a virtual gathering helps ensure increased accessibility and attendance from our membership and international partners. Keynote talks will be recorded and made available to the public after the conference concludes. We hope this virtual meeting will allow you all to join us!

SUMMARY:Ask an Expert\, North American Grassland Ecology
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, November 19th from 6:00-7:30pm CT for an Ask an Expert session with Chris Helzer and Garth Fuller. This is a science-focused expert panel that will tap into both speakers’ expertise and passion for North American Grasslands. Combined Chris and Garth have worked across the North American landscape specializing in grasslands ecology\, conservation\, and restoration. \nCome curious and ready to learn all about these invaluable ecosystems that not only support monarchs but vast biodiversity and crucial ecosystem services. Submit your questions below in one or more of the topics provided. \nChris Helzer is the Nebraska Director of Science and Stewardship for The Nature Conservancy. He joined the Conservancy in 1997 as a land steward and has gradually moved more into science and outreach roles. Currently\, he conducts research and supervises the Conservancy’s preserve stewardship program. He also helps develop and test prairie management and restoration strategies. In addition\, Chris uses his writing and photography to promote prairies and their conservation to a broad audience. \nGarth Fuller is the Eastern Oregon Conservation Director for The Nature Conservancy. Garth began working for The Nature Conservancy in 1994 in Minnesota where his land steward job included prairie and savanna habitat restoration and prescribed fire. Moving to Oregon in 2004\, his work has focused on habitat conservation through management on TNC lands\, public land partnerships and policy in the grasslands and sagebrush steppe that form Oregon’s rangelands.

SUMMARY:Evolving Techniques to Monitor and Showcase Projects Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Monitoring and showcasing conservation and restoration projects have evolved significantly over the past two decades. From early field sampling using paper maps and film cameras to today’s drones\, GIS\, and interactive digital tools\, practitioners have a wide range of options to collect\, manage\, and communicate data. This webinar explores how monitoring techniques have changed and how to select approaches that remain practical and scalable across different project types and site sizes.  \nSpecialists from Civil & Environmental Consultants\, Inc. (CEC) will share insights into field sampling and site monitoring\, demonstrating how both formal and informal practices can be applied based on project goals. They will discuss where traditional methods still add value\, particularly on smaller sites\, while highlighting the capabilities of electronic data collection\, GIS applications\, and modern data management systems. \nThe session will also examine tools such as drones and AI for assessing large-scale habitats\, along with effective ways to present data\, from hard copy reports to interactive online platforms. Attendees will learn how tools like StoryMaps can turn project results into clear\, engaging narratives for partners and the public. \nThis webinar emphasizes practical strategies for keeping monitoring efforts relevant and adaptable\, whether you’re managing a single small site or overseeing a complex\, landscape-scale initiative. \n  \nA brief Q&A will follow\, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with CEC’s team. \nWhat you’ll learn: \n\nHow monitoring techniques have evolved over the past 20 years\, from pre-GPS fieldwork to advanced digital systems\nThe wide range of GIS applications available for monitoring\, analysis\, and communication\nWhen and how different monitoring practices work best for small versus large sites\nHow drones and AI can support efficient assessment of large-scale habitats\nEffective ways to deliver and present data

SUMMARY:Online Film Screening: Western Monarch Butterflies: Protecting Our Pollinators with Q&A to follow
DESCRIPTION:Join the Monarch Joint Venture and filmmaker\, Ian A. Nelson\, online on Wednesday\, February 18th for a free viewing of Ian’s new film Western Monarch Butterflies: Protecting Our Pollinators. The screening will start at 6:00pm PT with an introduction to MJV and the film. Then the film will run for 76 minutes. Stay after the screening for a Q&A with Ian and Monarch Joint Venture’s Western Program Coordinator\, Erin Arnsteen\, and Western Science Manager\, Sarah Gomes Swanson. \nAs western monarch butterflies face the risk of extinction\, communities across the Western United States are restoring wild and urban habitats—showing that everyone can play a role in conservation and that protecting monarch butterflies also supports many other native pollinators. \nWestern Monarch Butterflies: Protecting Our Pollinators follows the western monarch’s remarkable migration across the West. Filmmaker Ian A. Nelson documents both the butterflies’ dramatic decline and the scientists and communities working to protect them\, weaving together stunning imagery\, scientific efforts\, and personal stories that highlight the importance of monarchs and native pollinators to ecosystem health\, food systems\, and human connection. \nDonations from the screening support Monarch Joint Venture’s Western Habitat Fund to advance western monarch conservation through habitat restoration\, science\, education\, and partnerships west of the Rocky Mountains.

SUMMARY:From Ideation to Validation: Assessing the Landscape for Validating Wildlife Collision Risk Minimization Technologies
DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about how wind energy companies and regulators work together to produce wildlife-responsible renewable energy to your home? Are you an engineer or wind energy technology company interested in putting your ideas to reduce wind-wildlife conflicts into practice?  This webinar will familiarize participants with  the current landscape that shapes how scientists and technology entrepreneurs bring their ideas to reduce risks to birds and bats from conception to practice. Registrants will hear about REWI’s most recent publication\, “Accelerating technology development to monitor and minimize effects from land-based wind energy on birds and bats\,” an overview of the process for using minimization technologies\, and then will hear two real-world examples from two current technologies in the REWI Technology Catalog: EchoSense and IdentiFlight. \nThe webinar will follow up with a discussion on the challenges that still exist presently to achieving validation toward the use of effective technologies in renewable energy developments across the United States and the Globe to protect wildlife and their habitats.

SUMMARY:TNFD’s data recommendations: Understanding the nature data principles
DESCRIPTION:In November 2025\, the TNFD released its “Recommendations for upgrading the nature data value chain for market participants” after over four years of research\, market consultation and piloting. These eight recommendations seek to catalyse a whole-of-value-chain mindset shift about the discoverability\, quality and accessibility of nature-related data as a strategic global public good. \nThe first recommendation lays out the need for a set of nature data principles\, which would be used by actors across the nature data value chain\, in order to address concerns around data quality and consistency. This webinar will dive into this recommendation\, showing how the proposed nature data principles address key data challenges identified throughout the TNFD’s engagement with the market. We will explore some of the findings from pilot testing and what this means for the market\, as well as other recommended next steps and implementation of the nature data principles. \nSpeakers \n\nCathrine Armour\, Director of Data Initiatives\, TNFD\nOsgur McDermott Long\, Data Lead\, UNEP-WCMC\nRoss Barton\, Senior Manager – Climate Change & Sustainability Services\, EY\nGavin Starks\, CEO\, Icebreaker One
