SUMMARY:New Trajectories for Binational Restoration Partnerships: Science-based and Diplomacy Mechanisms for the Restoration of the Colorado River Delta
DESCRIPTION:After a century of water development under a legal framework that did not recognize nature as a legitimate water user\, the Colorado River today rarely flows to the sea\, and its 600\,000 ha delta ecosystem has been reduced to a mere 10% of its original size. Environmental NGOs from the United States and Mexico have worked together for nearly two decades to restore riparian and wetland habitats and re-establish a modest connection between the flowing Colorado River and the Upper Gulf of California\, for the benefit of nature and people. During this webinar\, there will be a will replay of a keynote presentation from the Society of Ecological Restoration conference 2021 and then host a live Q&A with presenters Jennifer Pitt and Osvel Hinojosa-Huerta. \nMore details/ register here

SUMMARY:WHC: Bird-Safe Glass and Native Grass Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Bird-Safe Glass and Native Grass: Why Avian Projects Aren\’t Just About Nest Boxes \nRegister for the webinar here. \nNest boxes have become a common sight on corporate lands around the world\, providing cavity-nesting songbirds a safe place to raise their young. SUMMARY:WHC Webinar Series: Proactive Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Proactive Conservation: Supporting At-Risk Species through Collaborative Action \nFebruary 23\, 2021 \n12:00-1:00 PM CST \nWhile reversing population loss among threatened and endangered species is critical\, it is also important to proactively address the needs of species that are at-risk of potential listing. Voluntarily working to keep at-risk species from being listed benefits not only wildlife\, but also agencies and landowners by supporting their conservation goals and decreasing the need for regulatory action. \nIn this webinar\, leaders from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the conservation coalition Conservation Without Conflict will discuss the case for conserving at-risk species and how voluntary collaborative efforts between nonprofits\, agencies and corporate landowners lead to mutually beneficial environmental outcomes. \nWhat you’ll learn: \n• The importance of mitigating the threats that at-risk species face and how corporate lands play a key role\n• How partnering with nonprofits and regulatory agencies supports corporate conservation goals\n• Best practices for species recovery and how to find relevant species management tools \nWho should take this webinar:\n• Conservation teams whose sites are home to at-risk species\n• Anyone interested in how cross-sector collaboration can support species recovery goals \nPresenters: \n• Lauren Ward\, Executive Director\, Conservation Without Conflict\n• Wendi Weber\, Regional Director\, North Atlantic-Appalachian Region\, FWS

SUMMARY:WHC Webinar: Looking Out for Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:Looking Out for Pollinators: Strengthening Pollinator Projects through Monitoring and Citizen Science \nPresenter: Juanita Armstrong\, Natural Resource Specialist\, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department \nMay 4\, 2022\, 1pm-2pm CDT (through GoToWebinar) \nRegister for the webinar at GoToWebinar. \nPollinator projects empower corporate conservation teams to address global biodiversity issues through site-based action. Providing native pollinators with host and nectar plants is an important part of such conservation efforts\, but the work doesn’t stop once milkweed and bee balm have taken root. From there\, participants must regularly monitor the habitat. Tying these monitoring efforts to larger citizen science initiatives provides employees and community members with an opportunity to contribute data to large-scale efforts that track species distribution and movement. In this webinar\, a natural resource specialist from Maricopa County Parks and Recreation will discuss the importance of citizen science and other monitoring efforts\, reflect on her experience with citizen science efforts in Arizona\, and provide resources on starting and monitoring a pollinator project anywhere. \nWhat you’ll learn: \n• The important role that citizen science plays in pollinator conservation \n• Best practices for monitoring monarchs and other native pollinators \n• Ideas for creating or enhancing pollinator habitat at your workplace \nWho should take this webinar: \n• Anyone interested in starting a pollinator project at their workplace or improving their monitoring efforts \n• Site teams looking to incorporate citizen science into their conservation work \n

SUMMARY:(ROWHHG) A New Bumble Bee Conservation Effort for Energy and Transportation Lands Takes Flight
DESCRIPTION:A New Bumble Bee Conservation Effort for Energy and Transportation Lands Takes Flight\n\nMay 17\, 2022 \n12:00 PM-1:00 PM CDT on GoToWebinar \nBumble bees are undergoing serious population losses. Several species are awaiting consideration for listing under the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA): American bumble bee has declined by nearly 90%; Western bumble bee by 93%; variable cuckoo bumble bee by 89%. Recent ESA listings of other bumble bees have included the rusty patched bumble bee (2017) and Franklin\’s bumble bee (2021). The Monarch CCAA for Energy and Transportation Lands has spurred unprecedented conservation efforts for monarch butterflies across the nation. Building on this success\, UIC and USFWS are exploring the creation of a companion agreement aimed at conserving habitat needs for multiple at-risk bumble bee species across North America. This multi-species bumble bee conservation agreement is being developed to focus on six listed or petitioned bumble bee species. In this webinar\, we will share an overview of why this agreement is important now\, what is currently included in the proposal\, and the next steps. Please join us to learn about this bumble bee agreement proposal as well as how your organization can get involved.
