SUMMARY:(WEBINAR) ROWHWG - Bumble Bee CBA Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Positive Change for Biodiversity: The New Bumblebee Conservation Agreement for Energy and Transportation Lands \nTuesday\, June 18\, 2024 \n11:00AM-12:00PM CDT \nRegister now! \nBumble bees and other pollinators are representative of global biodiversity loss. Threatened by habitat loss and environmental degradation\, several species are already listed while others are under consideration for listing under the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA).  \nTo counteract this biodiversity loss\, the University of Illinois Chicago’s (UIC) Sustainable Landscapes team\, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR)\, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)\, Stantec\, representatives across energy and transportation lands\, and non-governmental organizations have worked diligently over the past year to create the At-Risk Bumble Bee Conservation Benefit Agreement for Energy and Transportation Lands. This agreement focuses on 11 different bumble bee at-risk species and aligns with the conservation efforts of the Monarch CCAA. \nIn this webinar\, we will share an overview of this new agreement\, enrollment considerations\, and how to support this exciting conservation effort. Please join us on June 18th to learn more! \n

SUMMARY:Williamsburg\, VA Pollinator Palooza
DESCRIPTION:Pollinator Palooza \nThursday\, June 20 (First Event)/Saturday\, June 22 (Second Event) \n10:00AM-12:00PM CDT (First Event)/8:00AM-10:00AM (Second Event) \nVeterans Park\, Williamsburg\, VA \nThere is no registration for this event. Anyone who visits the event location can participate. \nDuring National Pollinator Week\, June 17–23\, 2024\, Master Gardener volunteers will present a Pollinator Palooza with two special events. These events are not only educational but also fun-filled and designed to raise awareness of pollinators\’ benefits in an engaging way. The first event\, on Thursday\, June 20\, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\, is a children\’s extravaganza featuring crafts\, giveaways\, and a scavenger hunt. The second is on Saturday\, June 22\, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and will host exhibits by the Butterfly Society\, Monarch Watch\, Williamsburg Area Beekeepers\, and Native Plant Society. Stop by for a visit. Learn about pollinators and see this beautiful garden for yourself. \nThe Native Plant Pollinator Garden in Veterans Park/Kidsburg\, at 3793 Ironbound Road\, came to life in 2021 and has become a testament to the power of gardening education and the value of collaboration. This transformation from a one-acre expanse of grass into a thriving habitat was made possible by the James City County Williamsburg Master Gardener Association\, James City County Parks and Recreation\, the Clean County Commission\, and a generous grant from Dominion Energy\, with the active participation and support of our community. \nThis garden serves a purpose beyond its aesthetic appeal. It raises awareness about the pressing pollinator crisis and demonstrates the importance of biodiversity\, the value of our local ecosystem\, and the benefits of proper landscaping practices that can be replicated in a homeowner\’s own yard. \nThe success of the Native Plant Pollinator Garden at Veteran’s Park relies on our community\, which is encouraged to participate either individually or as part of a local organization. If you would like to volunteer and learn alongside our JCCW Master Gardeners while helping our pollinators\, please contact jccmgardener@yahoo.com. \nNational Pollinators Week is an annual event celebrated internationally to support pollinator health. Pollinators\, like insects and birds\, are essential organisms that help plants reproduce by transferring pollen from the male flower to the female flower.

SUMMARY:WHC: Forestry on a Smaller Scale: Your Guide to Planting Microforests
DESCRIPTION:WHC: Forestry on a Smaller Scale: Your Guide to Planting Microforests \n\n\n\n\n\nTue\, Jul 23\, 2024\, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CDT\n\n\n\nThis is a Webinar\, please sign up HERE. \n\nMicroforestry\, or the practice of densely planting local species to accelerate forest development\, is growing in popularity. The benefits of microforests range from wildlife habitat to reduced temperatures to improved mental health\, and they require little to no maintenance once established. Microforests’ suitability for various sizes and types of lands — including small sites and urban locations — make this nature-based solution an ideal option for corporate landowners. \n\nIn this webinar\, hear how WHC member WM became a pioneer in corporate microforest planting. WM team members will share the challenges\, successes and lessons learned from their microforestry work\, from the importance of working with a knowledgeable partner to the initial maintenance required. \nWhat you’ll learn: The benefits of microforests Tips for planning\, implementing and maintaining a corporate microforest How to gain third-party recognition for a microforest via WHC Certification \nWho should take this webinar: Corporate conservation programs interested in developing a new microforest Existing microforestry sites looking for further support and information Anyone who wants to learn more about this innovative solution \nPresenters: Chris Elder\, Project Manager\, WM Aycan Kaptaner\, Community & Government Relations Manager\, WM Joey Mendolia\, Consultant\, WHC Zeke Werden\, District Manager\, WM \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:Regeneration approaches delivering benefits to nature and people - SER’s third Natural Regeneration Network webinar highlights more case studies from around the world.
DESCRIPTION:Regeneration approaches delivering benefits to nature and people – SER’s third Natural Regeneration Network webinar highlights more case studies from around the world.\n\n\n\n\nAug 20\, 2024 07:00 AM CST\n\n\n\n \nRegister Here!\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers from Africa\, Australia\, and Nepal demonstrate various ways in which natural regeneration approaches can serve as the primary mechanism for recovering native species at restoration sites\, often achieving impressive biodiversity outcomes at relatively low cost. Whether it involves utilizing regeneration potential after removing competition\, reinstating appropriate natural disturbance\, or restoring hydrological regimes\, natural regeneration is increasingly being considered a restoration approach that pays dividends for both nature and people.

SUMMARY:Solar Energy and the Monarch CCAA Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Solar Energy and the Monarch CCAA Webinar\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThu\, Sep 26\, 2024 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM CDT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSolar energy is rapidly being deployed across the U.S. At the same time\, many pollinator populations have sharply declined across North America. The upcoming federal listing decision for the monarch butterfly may affect not only site development\, but also ongoing operations and maintenance. The Nationwide Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances for Monarch Butterfly on Energy and Transportation Lands (Monarch CCAA) offers a potential solution. In exchange for voluntary conservation commitments\, partners receive regulatory certainty and operational flexibility amidst the uncertainty of a possible monarch listing. This webinar will describe the Monarch CCAA\, what is required to participate in it\, and address how solar vegetation practices and land management can contribute to conservation through it. Considerations for the full lifespan of a project\, plus management strategies and resources for supporting pollinator habitat on large-scale installations\, will also be shared.\n\n\n\n \nRegister HERE
