University of Maine Cooperative Extension: Field Day: Pollinator Identification, Behavior and Disease IPM – Union, ME

Join Eric Venturini, Farm Bill Pollinator Conservationist and NRCS Partner Biologist with the Xerces Society, for an on-farm evening workshop on pollinators and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for blueberry growers.

We will hear about Paul Sweetland’s observations and approach to pollination in his wild blueberry fields. Frank Drummond (UMaine) will help the group identify the pollinator species present and the amount of pollination occurring. Eric Venturini (NRCS/Xerces) will explain their new NRCS IPM practice and Lily Calderwood (UMaine) will share tactics to reduce pesticide risk to bees through weed and habitat management. Seanna Annis will talk about mummy berry disease and its connection to pollination.
