Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct has been developed specifically for the Rights-of-Way as Habitat Working Group to promote a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members involved in our efforts to support habitat conservation and management.

Expected Behavior

  • Engage in conversations with curiosity, listen actively, and give everyone the opportunity to speak.
  • Participate in constructive and productive dialog within Working Group events and meetings.
  • Be willing to explore collaboration and partnerships with other Working Group participants to benefit conservation and industry outcomes.
  • Treat all Working Group participants with kindness, respect, and consideration of diverse views and opinions (including those you may not share).
  • Communicate openly and respectfully; critique ideas rather than individuals.
  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech directed toward other Working Group participants.

Unacceptable Behavior

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form. Harassment includes nonverbal, physical aggression, intimidation, or hostility. Behavior that is acceptable to one person may not be acceptable to another, so use discretion to be certain respect is communicated. Harassment intended in a joking manner still constitutes unacceptable behavior.
  • Examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to:
  • Physical or verbal abuse of any Working Group participant.
  • Unwelcome or offensive verbal comments or exclusionary behavior related to age, appearance or body size, employment or military status, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, individual lifestyle, marital status, national origin, physical or cognitive ability, political affiliation, sexual orientation, race, or religion.
  • Inappropriate physical contact, unwanted sexual attention, use of sexual or discriminatory images.
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
  • Harassing photography or recording.
  • Sustained disruption of speakers or Working Group events, bullying behavior, or retaliation for reporting unacceptable behavior.

Consequences

  • Anyone requested to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.
  • UIC staff (or their designees) or security may take any immediate action deemed necessary and appropriate, including removal from the meeting or event without warning or refund.
  • The matter may be referred to the University of Illinois System for consideration of further consequences, which may include removal from the Working Group mailing list or prohibition from attending future meetings and events.
