The Penn State Center for Pollinator Research is hosting the fifth International Conference on Pollinator Biology, Health and Policy on

June 3-6, 2023, with an optional evening welcome reception on Saturday, June 3rd.

It has been thirteen years since the inaugural International Conference, and there have been significant advances in our understanding of the drivers of pollinator declines, the tools to monitor and predict these declines, and strategies to conserve and expand both managed and wild pollinator populations. Moreover, it is clear that broader insect communities are experiencing similar challenges and can benefit from the strategies developed for supporting pollinators. The theme for this year’s conference is understanding and leveraging networks to support pollinator health, from gene networks to ecological community networks, to scientific networks.

Our keynote speakers for the conference are

  • May Berenbaum – University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign
  • Michelle Flenniken – Montana State University
  • David Inouye – University of Maryland & Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory
  • Alexandra Klein – University of Freiburg

Please see the Speaker page for all of our fantastic speakers, it will be updated as we confirm additional speakers.

Symposium will cover a range of topics, including mitigating the impacts of pathogens and parasites, deploying integrated pest and pollinator management to conserve pollinators and their ecosystem services in diverse landscapes, tools for monitoring and mapping biodiversity, principles and practices for designing biodiverse communities, and evaluations of the manifold impacts of climate change on pollinator and insect communities. Ongoing national and global initiatives in policy, education, and Extension will also be highlighted.

This conference will bring together individuals from universities, government agencies, industry, non-profit organizations, and several stakeholder groups to engage in a dialogue about the research, management, conservation, and policy approaches needed to tackle these issues.

Abstract submission deadline will be September 15, 2022.

For more information about the conference, please contact the conference organizers, Christina Grozinger (Penn State University), Michelle Flenniken (Montana State University), and Alex Klein (University of Freiburg). For conference logistic and registration questions, please contact Erin Reed. This conference is supported by Penn State’s Center for Pollinator research – http://ento.psu.edu/pollinators – Department of Entomology, College of Agricultural Sciences, and the Huck Institute of Life Sciences.
