Northwest Indiana and the Indiana Dunes are defined by a landscape of industry and nature preservation. The movement to protect the Indiana Dunes started back in 1899 and still continues to this day – protecting thousands of acres of natural lands nestled between urban landscapes and communities. Across this landscape, energy and transportation lands protect ecosystems, conserve rare species, and create corridors that connect a network of managed habitats and protected lands.
The Sand Creek Country Club has a long history of sustainable practices and environmental preservation. The site includes recreation and residential development among acres of environmental preservation. In 2000, Sand Creek received the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America’s National Environmental Steward Award for U.S. private golf courses.
Sand Creek was the first fully-certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System in the State of Indiana. This certification recognizes Sand Creek’s ongoing commitment to resource conservation and the management of water quality and wildlife. That includes such practices in water conservation, less use of chemicals, safer chemical choices and such practices as soil aeration. But it also means reserving areas on the course for wildlife habitats. The course retains this certification still today.
The BNEAT conference is set in this unique location to highlight the intersection of energy, transportation, and biodiversity. Despite the loss of habitat that has historically occurred, the built infrastructure of this region today plays an important role in conserving rare species, their habitats, and connecting people to nature.
Come join us at the BNEAT conference located near Indiana Dunes National Park to explore how nature and business can thrive together!
